When to Replace Your AC System

Types of Residential Air Conditioning Systems in Florida

Custom Climate Concepts wants you to be confident in your decision by being able to identify when to replace your AC System.

You’ve probably heard some broad assertions about after 10 years ‘it’s time,’ or 12 or 15 years. However it’s not about a random number of years: the decision to purchase a new HVAC system is about specific operational inefficiencies caused by wear and tear and new technologies or standards available that significantly outperform older counterparts. It also depends how far your home is from the ocean. Salt air causes outside condensing units to deteriorate much faster.

7 Reasons to Need a New Air Conditioner or Heat Pump

  1. Costs- when annual repair costs are about the level of a monthly payment for an entirely new system, it’s time to consider a new HVAC system. The advantages of a new system, like low monthly payments, energy bill reduction and improved comfort, will surpass investment in an AC repair.
  2. Climate Control- when major factors like cooling, heating or humidity become problematic a new system may be needed. Examples of this include: some rooms in your home are not cooled (or heated) to the set or the desired temperature; your home feels damp or your skin seems clammy indoors
  3. Air Quality- if you’ve noticed your indoor air quality doesn’t seem that good lately, you might consider replacing your HVAC unit. The health and safety of your family is important to Custom Climate Concepts. We want to make sure your HVAC unit is putting healthy air into your home.
  4. Noise Pollution- Older air conditioners and ductwork are significantly louder than today’s new AC systems. A loud clanking or overall noise level you’ve become accustom to could mean the end is coming for your current system.
  5. New Energy Standards- Energy efficiency updates mandated by the Department of Energy (DOE) require that all residential air conditioners, produced after Jan. 1, 2015 carry higher minimum Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio (SEER) and Heating Seasonal Performance Factor (HSPF) ratings. These standards are not arbitrary: they save money and increase energy efficiency.
  6. New Refrigerants- if your system uses R 22 Freon for its refrigerant, it’s time to consider installing a new HVAC unit. The federal government is phasing out Freon. Newer refrigerants are more cost and energy efficient, saving you money in the long run.
  7. Programmable Thermostats- Newer HVAC units come equipped with programmable thermostats that automatically adjust your air conditioning to be warmer or cooler to according to the goings on in your home. They help save money, keep your home comfortable, and do not overstress your air conditioning with constant cooling.
